We had quite a crowd for the Grand Opening of Corona de Tucson Fire Station #2. Our Public Information Officer Todd Cupell did a fine job as MC of the ceremony. The dedication of the new firehouse in memory of former Fire District Governing Board members Ruth Abbazia and Walt Soule is commemorated by 2 memorial plaques in front of the firehouse. Anyone interested is invited to drop by for a tour of the new firehouse at 17411 S. Rustling Leaf Trail.
We want to thank all those kind people who dropped off food and checks for the Little Town Food Bank. We will deliver goods that are left at either fire house to the food bank anytime during the year. The bank is located at 6465 Craycroft Road just north of I-10 and is open from 8 to noon, Monday to Friday. The phone number is 574-2263.
The Officers, Medics and Firefighters wish you all a safe and healthy 2009. Chief Bruce Whitehouse

HSSA filled to capacity with cats
Late Influx Spurs Special Adoption Fee
A decline in the number of cats and kittens is typical by November, but due to the warm fall weather HSSA is still receiving unusually large numbers of homeless cats. The delay in cold temperatures has given many cats the opportunity to breed one more time, sending hundreds of unwanted felines to our shelter. The Humane Society believes that a large number of unspayed and unneutered cats in our community, combined the current economic crisis are the reason behind the dilemma.
In order to find these lovable cats and kittens homes before the new year, HSSA is giving Tucsonans the chance to adopt two cats for the price of one until the end of December!
During this special promotion, feline fanatics can take home two purring bundles of joy for the price of one. Despite this deep discount, both pets will go home spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia and treated for internal and external parasites. The newly-adopted pets will also go home with current vaccinations, a sturdy cardboard carrier and is eligible for a free visit to a local veterinarian of your choice. Remember, two cats can offer twice the pleasure and twice the fun, and they’re often half the work because they keep each other company.
